SUMMARY:The Past\, Present\, and Future of Foundry Sand Reclamation
DESCRIPTION:presented by Glen Greta\, Foundry Consultant \nGlen started in the foundry industry in 1961 as a foundry co-op student with Deere and Company\, Moline\, Illinois\, while attending Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanics Arts\, Ames\, Iowa. He has performed every job in a foundry (core maker\, molder\, iron pourer\, cupola tender\, electric furnace operator\, cleaning room chipper/grinder\, maintenance mechanic\, maintenance electrician\, foundry engineer\, metallurgist\, supervisor\, general foreman\, superintendent\, foundry manager\, foundry owner (Stainless\, High Alloy). He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Metallurgy from Iowa State\, 1964. He served three years in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1967 through 1969\, trained as a combat engineer\, but never saw combat in Viet Nam. Thanks to the G. I. Bill\, he earned an MBA in Finance from Marquette University\, Milwaukee\, Wisconsin in 1974. He has extensive experience in insulating products and coatings\, selling for FOSECO\, No-Bake Binder Systems selling for Ashland Chemical\, and teaching as a CMI instructor. He started developing mechanical and thermal scrubbing for sand reclamation systems for Wheelabrator-Frye in 1979. He has been a Foundry Design/Engineer/Consultant since 1999. He has designed and project managed two greenfield foundry projects and one brownfield project since 2002. Glen is happily married to Penny. They each have two children from previous marriages\, and six grand-children. Glen restores military vehicles from World War II as a hobby.

DESCRIPTION:“Casting Defect Discussion; Cost\, Identification & Reduction” \nKevin Fleischmann\, AFS and the Institute\nSchaumburg\, IL  \nKevin holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University\, and is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of all Institute courses\, as well as instruction. Additionally\, his activities include collaboration with other industry groups; he is an instructor for the Investment Casting Institute’s certification course\, and recently updated the casting section of the Manufacturing Engineering Handbook from McGraw-Hill. \nA regular contributor to articles in Modern Casting and Metalcasting Design & Purchasing\, he is also a frequent presenter at chapter meetings and AFS conferences. Besides providing subject matter expertise for the development of new courses\, Kevin is currently an instructor for the Institute’s Introduction to Metalcasting\, Casting Defect Analysis\, Iron 101\, and Gating & Riser Design courses. \nPlease registered on our Eventbrite page.

SUMMARY:Sept 2015 Chapter Meeting - Speaker Mark Fazakerley
DESCRIPTION:September’s speaker will be Mark Fazakerley of Eagle Alloy.  Mark is Co-Founder of Eagle Alloy\, Co Owner of Eagle Group\, U.S. Naval Reserve active service  1969-70;  Current Board Chair of the U.S.S. Silversides Submarine Museum.  Other current  community service activity\, Trinity Health Regional Board\, Mercy Hospital Board; Muskegon Osteopathic Board.   Mark will present a brief overview of the U.S.S. Silversides activity in the Pacific during WW2 and Muskegon’s Foundries contribution to the war effort. \nPlease note this meeting our social hour will start at 5:00 PM\, and hour earlier than usual.  Dinner will be served at 6:00 with the presentation to follow.
