SUMMARY:Future of Foundry Industry
DESCRIPTION:Raymond W. Monroe rejoined the Steel Founders’ Society of America as Executive Vice President on April 1\, 1988. Prior to this\, for a year he worked for Saturn Corporation\, a General Motors subsidiary\, in the lost foam casting area. Raymond also was the Research Director of SFSA for five years before leaving to join Saturn Corporation. Other past experience includes contract research in metallurgy\, failure analysis and castings processes at the Southern Research Institute in Birmingham\, Alabama for six years; and\, while a student\, working for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center. \nHe holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and received his M.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Alabama (Birmingham) in 1980. He is active in the American Society for Testing Materials and the American Foundry Society. His prior publications include several papers on metal combustion in oxygen and casting technology. The work in castings has been concerned with mold-metal reactions\, quenching\, heat treating\, gas defects\, and cast iron properties. Raymond has authored and co-authored many technical papers and publications\, including the AFS book\, Expendable Pattern Casting\, published in 1992; a comprehensive review of the steel casting process called Making Quality Steel Castings: A Review of 20 Years of Literature. \nRaymond has been active in the metal casting industry on behalf of SFSA and the steel foundries. He has been with the Board of the Cast Metals Coalition since its founding in 1989 and served as President in 1998 and 1999. Cast Metals Coalition is a partnership with the Office of Industrial Technology\, U.S. Department of Energy Industries of the Future sponsoring research. He has also been on the Board of the American Metalcasting Consortium since its beginning in 1992. This is a partnership with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency\, U.S. Department of Defense to develop casting technology. \nRaymond is also on the AFS MACT Task Force Steering Committee\, working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the implementation and development of regulations governing the emissions of hazardous air pollutants from steel foundries. He serves on the Industrial Advisory Board for Penn State Manufacturing Engineering and UAB Mechanical and Material Science Engineering. DESCRIPTION:With the pending retirement of AFS CEO Jerry Call after 12 years of leadership\, AFS has taken the opportunity to implement many changes in order to position the Association to meet the challenges of the future and prepare for new leadership.  AFS President Bruce Dienst will provide a comprehensive update on the changes that have taken place in the last 18 months and some of the exciting new developments that will allow AFS to serve the industry better than ever before. \nBruce Wallace Dienst\nBruce Dienst is President & Chief Executive Officer of Simpson Technologies Corporation in Aurora\, IL USA and the Geschäftsführer of Simpson Technologies GmbH in Baar\, Switzerland. Bruce also serves on the Simpson Technologies Corporation‘s Board of Directors. Bruce is the great\, great grandson of Simpson Technologies Corporation’s founder Peter L. Simpson. Bruce joined the company full time in June\, 1983 and\, in 1995\, became the fifth generation of the family to assume the role of company President. \nBruce graduated from Miami University in Oxford\, Ohio in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and in 1991 from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University with a Masters of Management. \nBruce has provided leadership in many metal casting industry professional organizations including serving as the President of the Casting Industry Suppliers Association in 1994-5\, President of the Foundry Educational Foundation in 2004-5 and currently as President of the American Foundry Society. He is the only person ever to have served as President of all three major American metal casting industry trade organizations. In recognition of his service Bruce was awarded the Casting Industry Suppliers Association Presidents Award in 2000 and an American Foundry Society Service Citation in 2002. \nBesides his metal casting industry involvement\, Bruce is active in the local community serving on the Board of Directors of the Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora\, IL\, currently acting as its Vice-Chairman\, and the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago\, IL.

He manages the Industrial Energy Management program for Consumers Energy which helps customers streamline operations and find energy savings in their systems through regional forums\, on-site training events\, energy auditing\, and metric development. He has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. \nJerry Zolkowski\, PE CEM\nJerry has been a Senior Engineer at DNV GL since 2013. He works on the Consumers Energy Business Solutions incentive program in Michigan with a focus on making industrial plants more efficient. For 2.5 years Jerry worked at Dow Corning\, the world leader in silicones\, supporting global manufacturing energy efficiency efforts; and 6 years finding and evaluating energy conservation opportunities for Shaw Industries’ manufacturing operations. Shaw has over 50 manufacturing plants and is the country’s largest carpet producer. Also 10 years at the state’s industrial extension service at Georgia Tech. That work included energy conservation\, environmental compliance\, and plant & design engineering. DESCRIPTION:Washington Outlook: Key Issues Facing the Metalcasting Industry \nUS metalcasters are facing a wave of new regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\, Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Labor Relations Board. Hear about the key legislative and regulatory issues that AFS has been actively engaged in 2015 and what the industry can expect in 2016. \nStephanie Salmon is President of Potomac Government Relations\, a public affairs firm located on Capitol Hill in Washington\, D.C. She has over twenty-five years of government relations experience and works with clients to represent their policy priorities before the Congress\, the Executive Branch and regulatory bodies in such issue areas such as workplace safety matters\, energy\, environment\, tax\, appropriations and trade. She has worked for the American Foundry Society for nearly twenty years and currently serves as the Vice President of Government Affairs. \nIn this role\, she serves as the association’s advocate before Congress\, a myriad of regulatory agencies\, and a broad range of coalitions. In addition\, she drafts legislative testimony\, develops regulatory comments\, issues action alerts and updates\, as well as crafting educational pieces on issues affecting the metalcasting industry. She serves on the AFS Safety and Health Committee\, as well as the liaison to the Government Affairs Committee. \nShe received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies\, with a concentration in economics and business from the American University in Washington\, D.C. A native of Cincinnati\, Ohio\, Ms. Salmon resides in Arlington\, VA with her husband and three children.

SUMMARY:The Past\, Present\, and Future of Foundry Sand Reclamation
DESCRIPTION:presented by Glen Greta\, Foundry Consultant \nGlen started in the foundry industry in 1961 as a foundry co-op student with Deere and Company\, Moline\, Illinois\, while attending Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanics Arts\, Ames\, Iowa. He has performed every job in a foundry (core maker\, molder\, iron pourer\, cupola tender\, electric furnace operator\, cleaning room chipper/grinder\, maintenance mechanic\, maintenance electrician\, foundry engineer\, metallurgist\, supervisor\, general foreman\, superintendent\, foundry manager\, foundry owner (Stainless\, High Alloy). He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Metallurgy from Iowa State\, 1964. He served three years in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1967 through 1969\, trained as a combat engineer\, but never saw combat in Viet Nam. Thanks to the G. I. Bill\, he earned an MBA in Finance from Marquette University\, Milwaukee\, Wisconsin in 1974. He has extensive experience in insulating products and coatings\, selling for FOSECO\, No-Bake Binder Systems selling for Ashland Chemical\, and teaching as a CMI instructor. He started developing mechanical and thermal scrubbing for sand reclamation systems for Wheelabrator-Frye in 1979. He has been a Foundry Design/Engineer/Consultant since 1999. He has designed and project managed two greenfield foundry projects and one brownfield project since 2002. Glen is happily married to Penny. They each have two children from previous marriages\, and six grand-children. Glen restores military vehicles from World War II as a hobby.
